I just saw someone in the US (not here) telling people that if it's over 90 degrees and you see homeless people in distress you should call 311 and the police are "legally required to give assistance".

DO NOT DO THAT.

Please do not call the police on homeless people.

Or anyone, really.

Research your local shelters, resources, cooling center, etc. Do not call the police.

you shouldn't shame them for that.

take whatever money you're giving to gargron and put it towards your favorite instances' patreon/support funds (after all, these are the folks keeping m.s's load down, AND the whole reason joinmastodon.org exists, AND the whole reason mastodon as a whole is so successful), or give those dollars directly to your marginalized fediverse frens who are struggling right now.

Poor people don't need you to feel sorry for them.

They don't need to be reminded how people should be paying them and aren't.

They don't need to hear about how unfair anything is.

They don't need to hear how if they lived in your country they wouldn't be poor and would have health care.

They don't need compliments.

They don't need advice.

They don't need you to feel anything for them.

They need money.

Just a reminder from a former Welfare Clerk, the vast majority of welfare fraud is committed by employees, not recipients, and that welfare fraud and "welfare queens" are lines used by right-wing politicians to justify the complete dismantling of the social safety net.
