Mastodon is neat because I can recognize users and even though we don't generally chat, favorites and stuff are day-brightening

also it fills the "screaming into the void" void

i haven't been on in like a month why are people following me

apparently there's an investigation report about the twitter hack a few months ago

dfs.ny.gov/Twitter_Report

"Given that Twitter is a publicly traded, $37 billion technology company, it was surprising how easily the Hackers were able to penetrate Twitter’s network and gain access to internal tools allowing them to take over any Twitter user’s account"

ah yes, finally realizing big tech companies are as dipshitted as they come

There are Russian campaigns trying to get left wing voters to sit out the US election theguardian.com/technology/202

It is possible to both think that electoralism won't solve all our problems and that voting is a form of damage control. Don't be manipulated by fascists. Request a ballot. Cast a vote.

@chillallmen @goat @CornishRepublicanArmy For the record for 3rd party servers there is no difference between "old" and "new" selfagency because the whole thing relies on DNS, so yes, the posts that were already under that account when bofa.lol went down, are still there now, but the new bofa.lol should have no way of getting them.

The profile you see on your own instance, is just a cache. It does not reflect the real state of the account on its own server.

the fediverse is an awful mess and it's also home

meta

Today's meta is just a reminder that all social media is untrustworthy. Once you put something on the internet, it's there forever. Operate under that assumption and there's less of an issue

tbph if i were a web developer for this federated webbed site i probably also would not have considered the case "what if an admin deletes a moderately popular instance in a fit of baby rage and then someone resurrects it two years later for the lulz"

@Gargron If you do decide to make changes based on GDPR, please give admins the ability to implement how they see fit / based on their own situation. GDPR is a European Union law, and not all of us are based in the EU

it's a HUGE security flaw you can just revive any dead instance, remake old accounts, and get *all* their posts

why is it a thing that people like to do when ~*getting to know*~ others they want to ask ~*deep questions*~ and crap about your hardest struggles and fears. why would you ask about touchy subjects to someone you met half an hour ago. how does putting people on the spot like that INCREASE comfort??

i don't get it. i assume there's some logic behind it or people would. stop. but i really don't get it

mh shitpost

what are therapists but company doctors for that big company that is, society

A couple notes, longish:

- It has space for a grad degree and an undergrad degree. If you only have a bachelor's, delete the lines containing the bottom degree space (it's a table, so it's pretty easy to do) and put your degree in the upper space

- Because it's basically just a table, you can move things around pretty easy by copy and pasting. The format can get messed up when trying to move the bullet points around, though

- You can also add lines (it's a table!) to fill in the page. The advice we got was to have it be only one page long, but you do you

- Some resume building sites will let you create a resume with nice business-y bullshit about how great you are + help you translate what you did into something a hiring manager will understand, but they won't let you download it without paying. Go onto the site, make a resume, gather their buzzword phrase communication thingies, then take them and put them on your actual resume. If you're bad at explaining yourself like me, then congrats! You now have a pre-made list of bragging things
