I have been on this site for a while, and I have seen some shit. If you ever hear of a reference you don't get, feel free to ask me for clarification.
Also please feel free to ask me, or some of the other longtime users for any help if the layout of the site or anything like that stresses you out. It can be a lot to adapt to.
One of my passions is community management, so please help me to make this a viable community.

we're all real people. We are not fake bots, we are not trolls, we are not pretend people. We all act like real people on here. Please talk to people the same way that you would if this was a face to face conversation. Don't be fucking weird. This isn't a place of parasocial relationships, this is a place of actual talking
Absolutely no racism, sexism, transphobia, any ism allowed. The only people treated like shit are nazis and italians. Someone (like myself) may even call you out for passive racism. It isn't an attack on you, it's a friendly pointing out of a behavior. If you choose to attack as a reaction back, then it WILL be personal.
Many people here are hurt people from other sites. Please be patient. Most of us have some level of mental illness, disability, queerness, etc etc. Sometimes, that makes people reactionary. that happens. Just smile, remember the first strike is almost never personal, and treat this like adults.

A CW stands for Content Warning.
I do expect users to use these for, like the big things. You know, like sexual assault, graphic depictions of violence, transphobia in detail, pictures of food, spoilers about a movie that just came out this week and such.
But you don't have to use them only seriously! You can also use them for joke set ups, or just to make a giant rant about your fave game seem smaller.
CWs automatically stay on posts, even when you add more to their thread. so you can do like a CW'd thread about your playthrough of pokemon. Or about your cooking adventures.
It's a great tool for you to use though, for your ability to curate what you see. And on that note....

you can filter the TL
By clicking on the cogwheels and choosing filters, you can remove certain phrases and words from your TL.
If people are riffing for 3 hours about something and you're done with it? Filter the term.
If you have a very random but serious trigger? Filter it.
You won't MISS the posts. They'll just be minimized and told that it's a filtered post. You can reopen them and look at them if you feel like you're in a space to look at them, but you don't HAVE to.
And it keeps things nice.
You can filter who can see you
You have the ability to block individual people and whole instances (other sites). If you notice a lot of shitbags coming from one place, you can just shut off communication with that whole place.
If you make a report (on elekk), I get the report personally. It is sent to my email directly and I am the person who deals with it. And I do my best to deal with it as quickly as possible. It isn't a bot. It's a person. It's a me, Milo.

So, when you make a post, you might notice the globe icon.
That means it's a fully federated post. EVERYONE can see it.
If you change it to unlisted, only those in your bubble can see it.
if you change it to followers only, well... yeah.
and if you change it to the envelope, DMs, that is a private message. Only those tagged in it can see it.
