@lapishappy anniversary to this post. I still like the name Jude. I like it more now that I've heard it aloud (I may have written into a podcast as "Jude" and heard it in a mailbag episode).
I've really got to figure out how to broach the topic with my family. I... I don't know how. I tried to start a conversation yesterday, heard "Just so you're aware (Legal Name) is a beautiful name". Which I sort of knew? though on other people. Not me. It's never fit me.
Anyway, the topic fizzled out, and I'd really like to try suggesting it, even if it's a "when you're waking me up, use Jude unless I fail to respond three times" or something.
Is there a wikihow for this? Preferably with interesting art
@lapisHappy Jude Name Anniversary. (It's just Jude day in my calendar but if you don't know my birthday is in April it'd be confusing...)
I've started getting my nuclear family (save my Stepmom she seems to have too bad of dementia for it) to use Jude. Since my mom genuinely wants to make an effort but has chemo brain things, I told her corrections are fine. Like if she gets a "Happy Birthday, Daughter" card and crossed out daughter and put "child" that'd be fine. Ditto with my name. She ordered the family a christmas present, but shipped it to my legal name, but called and reported the mistake as soon as she made it. So I do think she's actually trying. We'll see if this holds true later.
My brother doesn't really call me Jude but that's because he rarely uses my name unless like he needs to call for me like there's chaos on a different floor.
So far my dad is the best at it, though due to the issue with my stepmom he has to use "sweetheart" a lot instead.
I have no idea if any extended family members know. I didn't give my mom permission to tell anyone, but I also didn't explicitly forbid it. No one has sent me any fucked up letters though so it's probably fine.
Right now I have physical therapy and such to focus on, it sucks I have to LARP as my legal name. Dunno what I'll have to report next year.
