Thanksgiving has racist colonialist roots obviously but also
Feast days are good
I'm just saying, we should take the basic framework of the holiday and rebrand it a little
Harvest feast days are pretty universal, just take the pilgrims out of ours
@coriander@elekk.xyz maybe plan the meal around local, indigenous ingredients
@coriander Like, just do an autumn themed communuty potluck. You can do that without insisting on tracing it back to some fake settler legacy.
@coriander maybe move it to a date which makes sense somewhere other than new england
@coriander anyway the whole colonialist thing is actually revisionism; it was just a calvinist get-together for folks who thought christmas was idolatry
@coriander wikipedia claims one major reason the colonialist stuff got added to thanksgiving was because it made it easier to teach colonial nationalism in schools in the late 19th and early 20th centuries if it was attached to a holiday
