Girls,
I think maybe I don't like Echoes of Wisdom actually
:(
If it was just wandering solving puzzles I think I would
But constantly rubbing up against combat in a game with no combat is so tiresome
It sucks it sucks it sucks so fucking bad, there's no mechanical investment, it's the worst real-time Pokemon implementation in the universe, you just sit there and wait
I'm in a room with a traversal puzzle but there's a Desert Fish in the sand so I can't solve the puzzle until I find the right fucking guy to kill the fish
If I choose wrong, all I've done is wasted my time
The most surefire way is to pick the same monster and they will kill each other at the same moment
@coriander my husband just always used wolves
@himbovoorhees Darknut doesn't take damage from a lot of attacks so I use him a lot
@coriander eventually he got a wolf that summoned OTHER wolves and i was constantly seeing those wolves on the tv
@coriander there was probably meant to be a puzzle aspect to the enemy choice but hubs was like "imma pick wolves"
@coriander yeah even as far as i got (i gotta continue thoughh) it started to become clear they were sticking way too closely to the zelda mainstream formula for something that changes the gameplay entirely
they're going through the obligations of building a world suited entirely for a type of game that this is not supposed to be, it's kind of ridiculous
@coriander it's like if you were playing the witness, that first person game where you walk from line puzzle to line puzzle, except it took place in a mario game.
like if you're going through a level where everything is built for you to be jumping around, you're going to be constantly be feeling the inability to jump. and EOW's problem-solving approach is basically "okay what if you can jump once in a while, but it's on cooldown"
@heatherhorns_lite Yeah that's exactly it, it wants to be both at once and it really only CAN be one of them and it just makes everything really frustrating
@coriander ironically like half of the reviews were like “i think the combat should have been more puzzley” so maybe they struck an ok balance
@coriander one reviewer was like “i got a cool Guy and then none of the enemies required me to use That Specific Guy! what a waste!”
