I finally got this quilt top finished. It's hard to see from the photo, but five of the squares, randomly "sprinkled" around, have crazy quilt style embroidery on them. The sashing is all denim. Now to figure out what kind of material to use for the borders and the back.

The end result, I'm really happy with my newest quilt.

The disappearing nine block was the first block that came to mind when I saw these fabrics. I have counted the number of "Bonten" I used: seven different ones, which is in line with the dress code for women in Hindeloopen in the 17/18th century.

The backing is a franken-backing, made with all left overs I had, and the binding is a plain grey poplin cotton.

The name of this quilt is "Hielpen", which is Hindelooper Frisian for "Hindeloopen" :neocat_lol:

I'm ready for Winter now that I have a new quilt to keep warm under while I sit on my couch.

Meet Jade, my first try at making a Dragon Amigurumi. 🐉
I wanted to get a feel for the pattern and construction and used fingering scraps. Looking back, probably not my best choice, but it sure gave me a steep learning curve!

Pattern: Dragon by Megan Lapp (Crafty Intentions) from the book "Crochet Creatures of Myth and Legend"

When I was cleaning yesterday I realized one of my oldest knitting projects ever is still with me - keeping Paddington’s neck warm. #knitting #fiberarts #memories

If you’ve been following this account’s pics the last few days, I do have a lot of stuffies. There are many, many more than have been pictured.

Math hivemind: I'm looking for something on the mathematics of kumihimo braiding.

The version I know of has a disk with 8 slots, and you start with 7 strings in slots. You take one of the strings, pull it out of its slot, and put it into the empty one, and repeat. It's a super simple way to make a nice braiding pattern.

See this for pictures: raft.net/wp-content/uploads/20

The person who showed this to me told me which number of strings worked, but I forget what she said. If you just try to do the same thing with, say, 5 strings -- make 6 slots, pull up a string two slots from the empty one, put it in the empty one, repeat -- it didn't seem to work. So it's not just 2 being relatively prime to 5 or 7.

Anyone have any links or resources on this?

Anyone here play with freeform crochet? I just discovered it & have been playing with making lots of random shapes. It's been great fun to let go of any predestined or preplanned pattern. It's also great to bust through my yarn stash.

I have no idea what all these pieces will end up turning into.

As I'm in the middle of construction of a small quilt out of these fabrics, I noticed that two remaining "Bonten" pieces did not match well with a remaining "Sitse". A lot of web searching later (Hindeloopen style fabrics are difficult to find online, it seems), I found a new "Bonten" which does match to the "Sitse", so tonight I can use these two to create two new blocks.

Yes, brown paper shopping bags *are* definitely more useful, because they have one actual use that I used them for, and one potential use which would be cool if I could get it to work.

The Actual Use is for putting recycling rubbish in, since, hey, you can recycle paper bags, which means the whole bag can go into the recycling bin.

The Potential Use is, I want to see if I can spin (strips of it) into yarn. I didn't like the idea of ripping it into uneven strips by hand, or spending annoying amounts of time cutting it with scissors, but then I realised I could cut it into fairly even strips without a lot of effort if I used my guillotine. So that's a thing on my to-do list. The end goal for this is a deliciously recursive project: to turn paper bags into yarn, which I can crochet into a rectangular basket, in which I can stand up a paper bag to put recycling rubbish into. That would be cool.
