okay, so I lied
it's NOT a magical blade
'blade' is the default
and the small thing has some gemstone slots on it that you use to alter the capabilities, length/speed/damage/etc. of the sword
BUT
it's made clear early on that the 'transmutation slot' on the thing can be used to instead alter it into a DIFFERENT weapon (but that slot can't be used for any other kind of gem), and so you can collect the Gem Of Staves or Gem Of Bows from certain enemies
if you kill the bow-wielding-enemy you can turn your 'blade' into a bow and the other upgrade slots change how the bow works as a melee AND how the arrows fly/damage/etc.
if you kill the staff-wielding-enemy you get the Gem of Staves and can turn the 'blade' into a staff with the upgrades affecting its stats
etc.
so that would let me put different weapon types into the game
(and kinda call back to the Mega Man series in a way)
I still have to figure out what the 'thing' is originally -- because it's not exactly a 'blade' per se at this point.
Maybe it's -- oooooh! Okay -- it's a magical shell wrapped around the first weapon that was ever created, so it's imbued with an absolute, fundamental essence of 'violence'.
It's a crude stone knife, of course. But it's large enough and the magical shell around it makes it effectively a handle
as a first game, I think I could do a lot worse -- platformer, do my own pixel art (I can KIND of do pixel art, and if I need someone to fix colors later I could pay someone with Real Photoshop Talent to do that), and I have a sillyish plot that I might be able to pull off if I actually refine it a little, too. ^_^ even with a Twist! (TM)
neat ^_^
okay -- so the #plan goes like this
. - build a #proof-of-concept for the 'platforming'
. - add the proof-of-concept for the dialogue bits that'll be in it
. - add test music to make sure I know how to stick in music
. - actually sketch out the #plot and the requisite connections-between-game-spaces #map
. - start a fresh project and try to build the #opening
(oh and a #title)
Maybe a Fantasy Land Name or 'Prime', but I feel I could do better.
@sydneyfalk Perhaps something along the lines of "Techne Khēmeia"?
maybe 'Khēmeia' or 'Kīmiyā', as the name of the magically encased artifact and the name of the game ^_^
it'd need something else to it -- but I think I know where it's going in that case ^_^ thank you!
@sydneyfalk Etymology for fun and creativity.
oh, shit
music. right.
O_O I keep forgetting games need that stuff, I don't process music the same way most people do so, hm.
Well, I'll figure it out. I know there's plenty of places with either cheap or free music I could use, and I know some people who might pro bono for me as a favor, or even just for the credit.
I mean -- I don't expect this to take off in any way. It's just a first game put together by one person. ^_^
