Pinned toot

is in my blood

I enjoy playful flirtations with my imagination, inspired by gaming. The emotional adventures that can be had.

I enthuse, I write, I podcast, and champion the niche in almost all forms of entertainment.

I prefer communities that support consideration and mutual respect, maturity and passionate discussion.

I'm a Dad and a Kid (at heart).

Games, even at their most basic, can unlock realms of excitement and untold adventure.. bring it on..

MOVED: Fellow elekkians...

In an effort to consolidate my "personalities", to unhook the burden from other instances, I've decided to stump for my own instance (with the help of mastodon.social/@mastohost) , and am in the process of moving over to it.

Hopefully I won't lose too many of the folks I've been avidly following or interacting with.

As someone who enjoys video games, especially made in Japan during my teenage years, this book is a must-have!

Japansoft: An Oral History is an intimate portrait of the early Japanese game industry through the voices of its developers.

Ah yes, that time of year where businesses voluntarily remind you why you shouldn't have ever given them your email address and just how little the "unsubscribe" link really does.

@aparrish Incidentally, this is why Facebook, Google, Amazon are constantly trying to vacuum all your personal data, drop spy devices in your house (Alexa, etc.), and know every single thing you do. Because the AI grows and learns to automate from the data itself, not from some Java with a semicolon at the end. We are all collectively programming Jeff Bezo's machine for him to make $gajillions.

@aparrish So if you are one of millions of 'just ok' coders who can make rules, compile scripts, etc. but not at the absolute cutting edge of machine intelligence, you may be increasingly out of luck. I've got a friend who is in the top 10% of machine learning folks, went to great universities, has been unemployed for 2 years.

@aparrish The difference I think in modern AI is that newer machine learning tools actually automate the process of automating -- you don't 'program rules in' you simply show the AI / robot the task, feed it tons of data on that, and then it learns itself how to accomplish that task, obsolescing the 'programmer / automater / rulemaker'. Google, Amazon, Facebook, they all have these sorts of machine learning already, and they only hire the top 0.1% best programmers to advance the AI

Been revisiting Dungeon of the Endless lately, and it still holds up as a puzzley tower defense RPG with paced careful planning, interesting resource decisions and intense moments of action. Even though its a good few years old, it will always have a place on my hard drive/console. Amplitude just know how to make really good games.

Good morning! Deactivated my personal Twitter account yesterday. And deleted the Mastodon fan page on Facebook, along with the temporary account I had created for it ☺️

The monster-collecting RPG Siralim 3 from Thylacine Studios was already massive, but a new update this week has added in even MORE stuff to this truly fantastic game:

...and as an indicator that I practice what I preach on the "delete Facebook" thing: bobstechsite.gitlab.io/blog/20

I permanently deleted my account in July 2017, and while I'm sometimes tempted I've not created another one.

Also all my articles now have a visible RSS link in the body text. I added those after reading Aral Balkan's post about RSS because I realised I'd only done that on the main home page (although it was always in <head> section)
