Anyone know who made the original all I want for Christmas is the means of production sweater? I really want one but don't want to buy from one of those awful shirt mills.

Hey netizens, please, *please* stop doing unpaid marketing work for YouTube by embedding their videos on your websites. I understand continuing to upload videos there to reach the large audience that already use it, but that doesn't mean you have to link to them. If you also upload your videos on a #PeerTube instance, or some other more independent video host, and embed those on your sites, you can help to grow the audience for ethical video hosting networks.

Did you know that ZZ Top's song, Pearl Necklace, isn't about jewelry?!

Some thoughts about Home Alone:

1: that house is enormous!
2: the pre-9/11 world was crazy
3: Macaulay Culkin was never cute

Reminder that from 12/10 to 12/13, there's a Youtube strike! Never cross a picket line, least of all here, an industry that relies on *your* eyes and *your* clicks.

Striking Workers Are Bringing Back 1970s "Mindfuck" Tactics

"Deliveroo and UberEats riders, [...] are masters of the mindfuck. Because they’re technically self-employed, the laws on strike action and trade unions don’t apply to them. That means that the slow bureaucracy of postal ballots and turnout thresholds designed to prevent workers from taking collective action goes out the window. Instead, these workers can just do what makes sense to them. The result has been an explosion in militancy, as the platforms try to cut their workers’ already-low wages. Strikes are now breaking out every couple of weeks with little or no prior notice. They’re organised through complex networks of encrypted messenger chats which are completely invisible to platform bosses, meaning that all their standard management techniques need to be rewritten."

Imagine working on the Star Wars special edition only to have people talk shit about your work for the next 25 years.

Trying to set up a streaming device using because it's what I know how to manage disks on, but ffmpeg is crushing my cpus. Can I make this more efficient without throwing 20+ cores at it?

Labor under capitalism IS NOT CONSENSUAL; it is coerced through the systemic threat of homelessness and hunger.

Yes, people must labor to survive and thrive in nature. But capitalism makes it so we must labor for an "owner," to create profit for them (surplus/unpaid labor) in return for a wage, instead of laboring for ourselves and our communities. This is an inherently exploitative process. Since we have no leverage (by design, through underemployment & unemployed - Marx's "reserve army of labor"), we must accept whatever wage we can get. And capitalists constantly seek to drive down wages and/or automate labor, leaving us in a perpetual state of precariousness.

Since Halloween is over I guess I should change my display name. :akkoshrug:
