Apparently there was a power outage overnight and now my desktop computer won't post? awesome

@noelle i'm guessing you've checked these already, but a reminder anyway just in case you forgot, have you checked the power switches on your computer's power supply and any power strips it's plugged into?

@io @ctrlaltdog Oh, it draws power, it just won't post. Fans spin up and then go idle, and it's not giving me any diagnostic beeps or flashes. And when I press the power button again, it turns right off, without the ATX "hold for five seconds".

@noelle PSU may have died in a surge. I used to live in an ancient building with no surge arresting, and it blew overnight.

@io Definitely possible. This feels either like it's not drawing enough power or like something's blown on the motherboard.

@noelle Dunno if you've fixed this but I've had something similar and had to hold the power button as I pulled the power cord out of the back... then reinserted, and presto.

Dunno why but that's how I had to clear my tower a few times..

@noelle Otherwise what you've described to IO sounds like a dead CPU (or a CPU not drawing power.)

@noelle (And please feel free to tell me to go to hell for trying to give advice without being asked for it. lol)
