A concrete rebuttal to "I don't see race": a number of facial-recognition developers famously ignored race too, and - having failed to actually test a variety of skin tones - ended up with software that literally couldn't see black people.

@noelle

Sorely tempted to put the Caucasia-vision scene in Undercover Brother here. "Caucasian overload! Caucasian overload! . . . I see white people."

@noelle
That attitude is probably why I can't use some automatic faucets

@noelle That could be a neat plot point in a cyberpunk dystopia novel.

@frameacloud I mean, it's an actual thing that happened in reality. :)

@noelle Right, it's the kind of thing that would seem clever if it was in fiction, but when we run into it in real life, it just makes us go "argh, seriously?"

@noelle I should not have assumed Better Off Ted actually had to exaggerate anything to arrive at this plot element. I should have just known.

@noelle you seem to miss the point. Race is a social construct rather than a biological category. The developers did ignore color of skin, not race.

@nore You've clearly put a lot of effort into deliberately not understanding this subject and I want to acknowledge your hard work in the field of remaining ignorant.

@noelle I just find it sad, how people not want to think or understand, but instead just write something that somehow sounds about right. And attack anyone verbally who is trying to point that out. Maybe I shouldn't waste my time with people like you, but on the other hand I think it's important to show, that there are people that actually care for the content, not only the appearence. And yes, to point that out again: Your initial post misses the point.
