I lost the conversation to which this is germane, but: if a social place is becoming polluted, leaving is just as valid a response as trying to clean it up. If you prefer to try to get rid of negative elements, good for you, but don't shame people for just walking away - that just contributes to the toxicity of the place for them.

@noelle There's this idea that we, as vulnerable users, owe it to any "greater good" to better a shitty toxic place run by a large corporation. It's not that simple and we owe nothing to anyone except to find and cultivate a safer space for us and friends.
@noelle Agreed. But I remember back in the day on those old forums, the Grand Exit became a tactic for several members obviously burning bridges on their way out. That they've said all they've to say on a subject, there is never any need to declare the argument finished in grandiose terms, and with a few parting shots on the way out like "I give up because you need to learn to walk on two legs first"
@noelle Agreed. I quit using birdsite as much as I used to just because it became a chore and I got little out of it. I didn't really leave outright, but I'm not going to waste my time cleaning it up either. I'm certainly not faulting others for leaving.
