@noelle I wouldn't thoight "punish experimentation" but more "just squeeze the lemon until the last drop drops", as in some games like Tower of Druraga, you couldn't do without experimentation.

But yeah, nostalgia is a powerful vector of inertia and it's too bad that some bad gameplay points are still living only for the nostalgia around them.

@noelle Mostly agree. I think rather the real point is that it's one kind of constraint to build into game play but shouldn't be a dominant one.

A lot of gaming is about resource management, so if you take how Mario games have often made "getting more lives" integral to game play, done right limited lives can enhance the game. But it has to balance out with other design factors in managing overall difficulty.

Basically it's about making it fun, not frustrating.
