I've temporarily suspended weedis.life until they deal with their spam problem.

In this case, their spam problem resulted in OUR sidekiq queues getting fouled. So now we get to wait for everything to catch up.

Sorry for the trouble. >_<

@noelle but maybe it's just sidekiq catching up?

@ishiku From which instance? :/ Users from weedis.life shouldn't even be able to try to follow you.

@noelle I can't see the time stamps but I just got a bunch of notifications from weedis./life after you suspended them

@ishiku Ugh. Okay, I've blocked all requests from their IP. hopefully that'll work.

re: Elekk users

@noelle I have reason to believe the spam problem is sanctioned and, as a matter of fact, is being executed by, the admin of the instance. Here's my own post on it: https://transfurrmation.town/notice/9kzpJPDcMeqsA2ZuaW

re: Elekk users

@noelle might want to make it permanent. This is a post from the admin: https://weedis.life/@Stoned2TheBone/102465483536589431

Unless they were hacked, this is likely to stick around.

re: Elekk users

@brainblasted @noelle https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/11360 someone already made an issue for this too. tootctl probably assumed too much good faith.

this may not be the actual problem, the problem does state "Unclear whether simply suspending the remote server is sufficient to prevent impact as the admin interface states "The domain block will not prevent creation of account entries in the database" or whether firewall rules must also be employed."

esp since the bag of worms is out there the bug might require an actual change in assumption of how a follow should work, least people just get on an old version of mastodon and harass people.

re: Elekk users

@oct2pus @brainblasted Oof, yeah. I've actually gone into nginx's config and blocked their IP address; hopefully that will work.

re: Elekk users

@noelle @oct2pus could I get that snippet from your nginx config?

re: Elekk users

@brainblasted @oct2pus Oh, it's a one-liner - nginx has IP deny built in automatically. Just add

deny 116.203.89.99;

to the beginning of the http{} block.
