Reminder: every Mastodon instance is run by a human being and administered by a small group of human beings (and that small group may number 1). Attacking an instance means attacking the person who runs it.
This reminder is especially relevant if you're a mastodon admin. You don't get to pretend that other instances are monoliths when you know that your own isn't.
@noelle i am a squishy pebble in a big dang ocean of forevercanes tbh
Counterpoint: Mastodon is designed so that instance owners can enforce codes of conduct relevant to their instance and block those with incompatible values. That's why you don't see ancap and fascist instances in your world TL and why I don't see shit post instances, even leftist ones, in mine
Dealing with other instances as entities, holding admins accountable for the actions of members, and members accountable for admin behavior are features of the platform
@AceNovo Of course. I'm mostly referring to the tendency some people have to assume that Masto instances are faceless monoliths like Twitter or Facebook.
I'm thinking of the ways that comment could be taken as disempowering instance owners who choose to block another instance
I have experience running a community in a federated context and I'm looking at starting an instance, but Mastodon is a fricken shark tank compared to what I was part of before
@AceNovo If you're absolutely determined to read my comment as negative and disempowering, I can't stop you.
