Withdrawing socially is a common form of self-harm among people with #depression. Please keep an eye out for it and recognize that someone who pulls away when they're depressed won't necessarily want to keep that distance when the fugue ends.
@noelle I'd just add that in my experience it doesn't always neatly fall into the self-harm bucket - following the urge to withdraw may often cause more harm than good long term but some folks (myself included and also with PTSD) seem to get hypersensitized and easily overwhelmed while in a depressive state and need to withdraw for self-protection at times. That said, what you say is still quite true - it really helps when people gently persist at trying to include us :)
