@noelle I must go, my people need me.
@noelle nyoooooooom!
Surgeon General's warning: nyoom responsibly! 👍
@noelle What's the machine it fell off of? I thought "belt sander" at first, but then I'm not sure what the other belts/rollers are for.
@qwertystop @noelle maybe it's to sand multiple things at once?
@grainloom @noelle That doesn't seem safe (not enough room for two people), and also the belt looks a bit too narrow. At least, at first glance.
I was thinking it might be some sort of roller or press, that the belts are to drive something in the middle, but I don't know.
@grainloom @noelle I mean, it looks like there's four distinct belts there, all with notable gearing ratios (judging by the wheel radius at each end). But the belts aren't all aligned, the middle two are offset from the end two. As such, I am confused.
@noelle That belt sander made a smooth exit.
@noelle that doesn't even look too real? like it, moves off too smoothly and then PAUSES
@amphetamine @noelle but it doesn't deform though...
i don't think it's fake! it just looks weird lol
@er1n @amphetamine @noelle i guess it's moving so smoothly at the beginning (and maybe no deformation) because the spinning is making it act like a gyroscope? and the reason it pauses when it hits the ground is because it doesn't actually have any forward velocity, only rotational, so it's acting like a flywheel that's having energy discharged from it to provide forward motion?
@er1n @amphetamine @noelle maybe gyroscopic effects are also why it doesn't deform when it hits the ground, but i'm not sure!
@jk @er1n @amphetamine @noelle Keep in mind that strong transmission belts are *heavy*. That one probably is a few kg
@er1n @amphetamine @noelle yea no special effects team worth their salt would animate things in this way which means it's obviously fake by which i mean real 😎🧐⁉️ #simulacrum
@er1n @amphetamine @noelle what fucks me up is that because of the change in horizontal velocity the magnitude of the velocity vector appears roughly constant which isn't how my brain expects gravity to work
@er1n @amphetamine @noelle also foreshortening fucking things up: it looks like while it's falling it takes a more circular shape (what i would expect) and then flattens back out on impact but it's hard to tell
@noelle me logging tf in
