Is Dune #punk?
When I was telling my brother about various forms of punk he wanted to call #Dune #SpicePunk. Would that be the proper name for the genre?
@JordiGH Uhhh isn't there that Jane Austen fandom? I could see rebranding it as "feelspunk"
@lapis only if Tom Clancy is military punk
speculative fiction would be the best genre name in my view
@c1t7 I've only read the first book, but I was feeling like it didn't count, but I don't consider myself a -punk expert. It is fun to come up with various names though.
@lapis naming things is half the fun
@c1t7 I relayed the TC response to him and it irritated him, because of TC. He hasn't read the non-Frank Herbert books. Is there something we should know? Alternatively, is there something nostalgia has clouded.
i did the non Herbert prequel books on audio and they felt derivative and i ended up hate listening to them
the only dune book I'd ever reread is Dune
@c1t7 I've been told I should read the 2nd book because the books come in pairs, but I haven't had the urge. It's not like I hated the first book or anything, I just feel no urge to continue.
@lapis I was wondering about #ecopunk, but there seem the be conflicting views even about whether it uses eco- as in ecology or as in economics, and I get the impression people using it in the former sense might be more into environmentalism than into planetary ecology as a Dune-style setting.

#Spicepunk makes me think of either the historical spice trade or an era of pop music I'd sooner forget.
@GardenOfForkingPaths That's not good! What if I have to pronounce it out loud? Do I just distract someone instead?
Let's invent your first idea of #Spicepunk as a genre.
@lapis That's one of the questions a work of mannerpunk might address at length... :-P
@lapis Only if we can call Jane Austen feelspunk.
