The problem with reading some classic novels is the fact that you have to deal with the optics of being the kind of person who reads them
Like, yeah, Fahrenheit 451 is a foundational piece of literature but also I don't wanna be the person who has a copy of Fahrenheit 451, y'know?
It's not even that I think it's a bad book or something people shouldn't read! It just feels like a very normie book to have on-hand
@coriander is it better or worse to be the kind of person who reads classic novels but only of foreign literature and only new translations that are different from what everybody else has on their shelves
