Quiet public

Oh wow an RPG claiming to have a "genre redefining morality system" I'm sure that won't be stupid

Quiet public

-sees the Philosophical tag-

Oh christ it's worse than I imagined

Quiet public

oh my god????????

Babe wake up new political compass just dropped

Quiet public

Everyone knows utilitarianism and nihilism are opposites

Quiet public

All you did was squish D&D down to 4 alignments and give them different names

Quiet public

This isn't even that novel!

Planescape Torment did this in the fucking 90s!!!

Quiet public

I don't trust any RPG that bills itself front-and-center about the "moral dilemmas" in its writing, it speaks to a lack of confidence in the writing itself, like the only thing you can think of to tell me about why I should play it is that I'll have to decide if I want to eat babies or give them candy

Tell me about the characters, tell me about the worldbuilding, tell me about the plot and quest design, let the choice aspect of the game speak for itself

Quiet public

I don't give a shit if the choices I make in dialogue moments "matter," a fucktillion games have done that, what kind of choices can I make in the gameplay?

Quiet public

I've said it before, but the game that had the most Choices Matter design in the past few years was Elden Ring

Quiet public

I feel like a goddamn grade school teacher reading this

"Innovative features"
Like what?

Quiet public

aaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Quiet public

If the game weren't thirty-five of God's Own Smackers, I would honestly probably pick it up just out of morbid curiosity but I'm not paying that much for a game I already don't like based on how it's selling itself

Quiet public

Nevermind I changed my mind the game is good actually if it's making gamers post reviews like this

Quiet public

Genuinely good dev response, too, and saying "Hey Jive Turkey" to this guy is fuckin hilarious

Quiet public

This review right here is the best one

Quiet public

The dev response to the review was like "uwu im sowwy u didn't like the game but it's not finished yet we'we stiww impwoving on it" but like

bro you released this as a 1.0, not early access, so it deserves to be criticised like it's a 1.0

Quiet public

Does nobody understand what it means to release a finished video game anymore??

Quiet public

@BestGirlGrace Then you have no place in the apocalyptic outback, I guess

Quiet public

@coriander nobody in the postapocalypse respects that i respect women

Quiet public

@BestGirlGrace Furiosa (2024)

Quiet public

@coriander A PODCAST FOR THE MODREN ERA

Quiet public

@coriander hmmmmmmm

Quiet public

@coriander I feel like if I was working on a game about ethics and a professional ethicist emailed me to tell me I was wrong, I'd just close up shop

Quiet public

@BestGirlGrace The dev response to the review says they don't remember being contacted by this guy but yeah

Quiet public

@coriander I get that it's just a game, it doesn't have to be perfectly accurate, but damn.

honestly, I think it'd be cool to have a staff ethicist on my video game.

Quiet public

@BestGirlGrace Yeah but that would require anyone acknowledging that philosophy majors are worth a damn =P

Quiet public

@coriander I fear they all do and that’s precisely why so many don’t

Quiet public

@campbell So many gamers will see devs say they don't have plans to continually release free massive content patches for the next 10 years and declare the game dead

Quiet public

@campbell Like no dude it's just finished

Quiet public

@coriander “morality is what happens in the story, not how that story engages with the real world”

Quiet public

@coriander franchises such as disco elysium

Quiet public

@coriander Love a genre-defining morality systems that makes every interaction into a philosophical statment, and tests these philosophies in the ultimate test of morality: a zombie apocalypse.

Quiet public

@coriander sorry, not zombies. The "everyone has guns and is bloodthirsty" apocalypse

Quiet public

@rockario @coriander a philosophical statement rated on an objective numerical scale, even

Can anyone truly say what decision is right or wrong? No, but I can say for a fact this one is eight degrees Humanist and that one is one degree Machiavellian

Quiet public

@coriander it's like they took disco elysium's alignments and made them bad and way too mechanically front-and-center

Quiet public

@maple They "at least" do name-drop DE as an influence in the store page but yeah

Quiet public

@coriander disco elysium's alignments work because they operate in the background lol

Quiet public

@maple I really need to play it....

Like, I have it, it's in my Steam library, I just haven't gotten to it yet and I extremely need to change that

Quiet public

@coriander you need to play it

Quiet public

@coriander drop everything and install it right now

Quiet public

@maple I'm heading up to Vancouver for a long weekend tonight, else I would!!

Quiet public

@maple I don't want to start the game and then not play it for a week

Quiet public

@coriander you can't keep running away from this!

Quiet public

@coriander (i'm teasing btw)

Quiet public

@maple Okay okay compromise

I'll INSTALL it today but I won't start it =P
