Honestly once I realized Nintendo insists on putting a new Gimmick in each release of one of their mainline titles, a lot of things started to make sense AND a lot of the shine immediately fell off of Nintendo Games as a concept for me
Miyamoto is honestly holding Nintendo games back in a lot of ways
@coriander i'm surprised zelda has been allowed to get as divergent as it has under miyamoto's auspices.
i hope that when he finally leaves the the company we'll see a nice refresh and return to form for their mario rpgs, something closer to the original paper marios and the mario + luigi games
@hoppet Yeah it's weird how Miyamoto insists on New Gimmicks but also won't let things get Too Weird most of the time
@coriander it's weird because a lot of the old japanese game companies feel like they're run by old people and they're just not... With It anymore. when their time passes i imagine there'll be some pretty interesting moments of upheaval in design philosophies at those companies. that or they'll just go the way of konami
@hoppet @coriander zelda is all aonuma like, miyamoto was all “story is bad and gamers love gimmicks” and then they made link’s awakening as like a side thing and everyone loved it and then they made majora’s mask as a side thing and everyone loved it and miyamoto was like “ok go off i guess” and largely just lets them do whatever they want now as far as i understand
@coriander @hoppet he was present for like, the very very beginning of tears to the kingdom but then fucked off to go do the mario movie and as far as i know was not involved with it at all from that point on
and this is pretty typical i think; there's usually some other nintendo property he's putting all his time into slash maybe ruining and so zelda just flies under the radar
