@trwnh As I recall, early podcasts were quite small in size as so many people (including me) were still using dial-up.

My first podcast in 2005 was 40+ minutes and just over 10mb. Shorter form audio podcasts would be able to manage using the current upload settings.

@Crash I only bring up dedicated software because it would then be easier to add in transcoding and other post-processing that Mastodon will probably never add (to reduce server strain). Meanwhile, a dedicated podcast AP server doesn't have to deal with pulling in possibly thousands of statuses per minute.

@trwnh You make some good points. A Masto-cast feed that gets popular could take out a smaller instance.

I like having more than one open source option in the toolbox, though. I've used self-hosted WordPress with plugins, but not everyone has time for that.

@Crash Definitely plenty of room for a nice polished podcast-focused software! As long as the Mastodon client implements an audio player, it would be nice!

@maloki This is true, but micro-blog-ish services tend to be like multi-tools: Not the best for most things, but usable for almost anything in a pinch.

This would add another option and allow people who don't want to manage too many accounts to consolidate things. I PERSONALLY wouldn't use it as I already pay for hosting, but I can see people using it.
